Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) sees the Philippines as one of its manufacturing sites of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).

In a press release on 06 April 2026, the Department of Finance (DOF) announced MMC’s plan and expressed optimism that the Philippines can infuse locally-made HEVs in the global market.

“This is a landmark investment that will redefine the future of our automotive industry. And the even more exciting possibility is that we could be an exporter of hybrid cars,” remarked DOF secretary Frederick D. Go.

The finance department explained that local HEV manufacturing can cut down the country’s dependence on imported oil and reduce air pollution brought about by oil-powered vehicles.

The plan will also generate additional jobs for Filipinos and contribute in the country’s bid for a sustainable, technology-oriented future.

MMC sees its production plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna as the first manufacturing hub of HEVs in the Philippines.

MMC mentioned about the HEV production in the country during the meeting among MMC president and chief executive officer Takao Kato, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., and Go at Malacañan Palace on 06 April 2026.
