Fresh from the whip and torrential downpour brought about by severe tropical storm Kristine, the Philippines may face another round of rainfall and wind blow as a new tropical storm approaches the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday, 26 October 2024, a tropical storm with international name Kong-Rey moves towards the eastern PAR with a speed of 35 kilometers per hour.
Kong-Rey may enter the PAR in the early morning of Sunday, 27 October 2024, upon which it will be named "Leon."
The PAGASA noted that tropical storm Kong-Rey may intensify to a severe tropical storm on Sunday and, eventually, to a typhoon on Monday, 27 October 2024.
Current PAGASA forecast shows that upon entry in the PAR, Kong-Rey may continue its movement within the area northward but away from the Philippine landmass; however, its outer rainband may bring rain and wind rush throughout the country, especially in the northern Luzon.
The PAGASA advises the public to stay tuned in the weather bureau’s advisories.
