Richard Trench, in his book On the Study of Words, noted that grammar constitutes the well-grounded composition--the logic--of language, similar to that logic governs the structure--the grammar--of reason.

Trench, a poet, book writer, professor, and Biblical scholar in the 19th century, held grammar as the key to rational production of language.

In other words, grammar enables us to choose words, decide on their appropriate form, and sequence them in a word cluster all towards shaping the exact expression we intend to convey.

Trench's statement illustrates the core importance of grammar as we attempt to express ourselves to others through language.
